The US Supreme Court has thrown out a NC Supreme Court ruling that upheld Republican gerrymandering of congressional and legislative districts after the 2010 Census.
The congressional maps adopted in 2011 led to a swing from a 7 D, 6 R split to the current 3 D, 10 R split in North Carolina's congressional delegation and super-majorities for Republicans in both houses of the NC General Assembly.
The order directed the North Carolina Supreme Court to re-hear the case "in light of Alabama Legislative Black Caucus v. Alabama," which also concerned redistricting and race.

The nation’s highest court ordered the state’s highest court to reconsider whether legislators relied too heavily on race when drawing the 2011 maps, which shape how state and federal elections are decided.

Hooray for Justices Kennedy, Breyer, Ginsburg, Kagan, and Sotomayor! NC Democrats needed this.
